Soldier Home From Iraq Found Dead

RACINE – A soldier home on leave from Iraq was found dead in Racine on Thanksgiving Day.

The victim’s family tells me he was home from Iraq to spend the holiday with family. Instead, he and his friend were found dead inside his friend’s apartment.

A memorial sits in the Tran living room in honor of 20-year-old Tue Tran, who was found dead inside his friend’s apartment on Thanksgiving.

The tran family says Tue was home from Iraq for two weeks to spend Thanksgiving with his family and his 10-month-old daughter. They can’t believe he survived months in Iraq, and died in his hometown with his high school friend Joey Dumont.

Joey’s dad found the bodies.

“His father came over to get him for Thanksgiving dinner and found him in there,” Macon Kidd said.

Macon Kidd manages the apartment building where the men were found. He lives next door to Joey Dumont.

“Very, very shocking. Because you’re looking forward to having your kids and enjoying your holiday and then there’s tragedy. It’s a tragedy,” Dumont said.

Medical examiner says the deaths could have been caused by drugs or alcohol.

“it’s very, very sad because you’re looking at two youngsters, 19 and 20 years old. They haven’t even made it to 21, and gone!” Kidd said.

The medical examiner is waiting for toxicology results before he can say for sure how the men died.
