Home Explodes In LaCrosse

LA CROSSE – A home exploded early Thursday. There was no immediate word on injuries, but initial reports showed it was not occupied at the time, Fire Chief Gregg Cleveland said.

Xcel Energy was working to cut off the natural gas service to the home, and firefighters will make sure no one was inside, Cleveland said.

Streets surrounding the home on the city’s north side were blocked off. But an elementary school about a block away was not evacuated, he said.

Cleveland said the homeowner, who was not injured, was on the scene Thursday morning. Authorities planned to continue their investigation throughout the day.
