Police Search for Gunman who Fatally Shot Man in Front of Bus Stop

Police Friday searched for a gunman who shot to death a 21-year-old man in front of a Kensington bus stop.

The shooting on El Cajon Boulevard at northbound Interstate 5 was reported at 8:25 p.m. Thursday, said San Diego police homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney.

The victim had been waiting at a bus stop with a female companion. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene at 8:41 p.m., Rooney said.

The man and his companion were standing on the north sidewalk on El Cajon Boulevard when a black Dodge Charger or Magnum slowed down in front of the couple and the driver starred at them for a moment, Rooney said. The driver kept going but returned a short time later on foot.

The victim and the gunman exchanged words, after which he was shot, Rooney said.

The gunman then fled in the black car, which was parked nearby, and was last seen headed east on Meade Avenue. He is described as a black male, about 21, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a short afro hairstyle.

The victim’s name was not immediately released
